The 4th National Assembly encouraged the army and people to carry out two revolutionary strategic tasks: intensifying the struggle for national liberation in the south, persistently protecting and building socialism, defeating the war of destruction waged by the enemy, and mobilising human and material resources for the great frontline to defeat the US imperialist invaders and their henchmen.
After the signing of the Paris Peace Accords on Vietnam, the National Assembly approved measures to ensure the strict implementation of the agreement.
At the same time, it also decided on important issues of the State in order to quickly settle the consequences of the war, restore and develop the national economy, develop culture, stabilise people's lives, consolidate national defence, continue the cause of building material and technical infrastructure of socialism in the north, and together with the people in the south successfully complete the cause of liberating the south, thus reunifying the country.
The 4th National Assembly was the one of winning over the US invaders, persisting and continuing building socialism, recovering the national economy, and healing the wounds of the war, and preparing to bring the country into a new era.
During its 4 years of operation, the 4th National Assembly convened five sessions and the National Assembly Standing Committee, 53, passing 559 resolutions on issues within the committee’s authority.
