Nghe An (VNA) – National Assembly (NA) Chairman Tran Thanh Man, who also serves as Chairman of the National Election Council, has urged Nghe An to ensure voter lists are compiled “accurately, fully, properly and on schedule”, given the central province's large size and diverse conditions.
While leading a working delegation to inspect local preparations for the election of deputies to the 16th NA and People’s Councils at all levels for the 2026–2031 term on February 28, the top legislator noted that Nghe An is the fourth largest locality nationwide by area, featuring mountainous, midland, delta and coastal regions. The province is home to about 500,000 ethnic minority people, which places high requirements on voter list compilation, convenient polling station arrangements, security and order maintenance, and communication efforts reaching every household and voter.
At a working session with the provincial Election Committee, the NA Chairman praised Nghe An’s comprehensive, serious, timely and law-compliant preparations in line with guidelines from central authorities.
The province has established 1,039 commune-level People’s Council election boards with 12,050 members, identified 3,123 polling areas and set up a corresponding number of polling teams. Voter lists have been regularly reviewed and updated, with the integration and effective use of the resident database to improve accuracy. Candidate nomination has been carried out in line with the prescribed procedures, structure and composition.
Notably, Nghe An has proactively developed plans for early voting in 55 polling areas across 31 constituencies in 12 mountainous, remote, border and hard-to-reach communes where terrain and transport conditions are challenging.
Emphasising that there is not much time left until the Election Day, March 15, while the workload is substantial and requirements are stringent, the NA leader requested the province to focus on several key tasks. These include fully implementing the directives of the Politburo and guidance from the National Election Council, and ensuring the Party leadership over the election.
He urged the entire political system to actively engage in the process, closely monitor developments at each polling team and station, strengthen inspection and supervision, and promptly resolve issues emerging at the grassroots level. The province was also asked to continue reviewing voter lists, especially for those studying or working away from home, to safeguard citizens’ voting rights.
Regarding the 55 polling areas subject to early voting, the NA Chairman requested thorough preparations, provision of sufficient and clear information for voters, strict adherence to procedures before, during and after voting, and absolute safety.
Earlier the same day, the top legislator inspected a polling station in Phuc Long hamlet of Hung Nguyen commune, where he acknowledged the locality’s careful review and updating of voter lists, application of information technology, and development of contingency plans.
Noting that the commune has a large Catholic population and that the Election Day falls on a Sunday, coinciding with church services, he suggested flexible arrangements in line with regulations to facilitate parishioners’ participation.
As the polling station is located near a national highway, he also demanded attention to political security, social order and traffic safety. He called for strengthened communications before, during and after the election to encourage voters to exercise their rights and responsibilities and to select truly outstanding representatives to reflect the people’s will and aspirations in the NA and People’s Councils at all levels./.
